Stories from 2007 Marathon Events

St. Peter's School, Delano

St. Peter's School in Delano tried a new tactic for their marathon this year. They called it "A Reason to Ride." When they asked people and businesses to pledge money, they also asked for prayer intentions. The children prayed for these intentions every day as they geared up for the marathon. St. Peter's had a goal of $45,000 but they were able to raise $50,000 in four weeks! This endeavor also meant a lot more to the faculty and students because prayer played such a prominent role. St. Casimir's School, Wells

St. Casimir's School in Wells was able to raise over $18,000 with their marathon. The local Knights of Columbus proved to be very helpful indeed. They dealt with safety logistics such as blocking off sections of road and providing an ambulance and police escort. They were present the day of the Marathon to lead the parade as well as give out prize drawings at the lunch which they also provided.  After all the funds were collected from the students, the Knights held an award presentation for the students who ran the most laps, contacted the most donors and collected the highest donation amount.  They also gave an ice cream party for the class with the highest average donation per student.

Divine Mercy School, Faribault

Mindy Reeder from Divine Mercy School reports:

We had a fantastic marathon event working together to make a difference in our community while raising funds for Divine Mercy Catholic School in Faribault. This year, we exceeded $35,000 for our marathon with our students providing various community service projects. We asked businesses to be our partners in education which helped us reach this goal!

Our younger students in Preschool –3rd Grade walked around Central Park in Faribault and our older students did several projects. Students in 4th grade cleaned up the debris at Garfield and Wapacuta Parks in Faribault. Our 5th grade classes cleaned and beautified around our two school buildings, raking leaves, planting flowers, and laying mulch. Students in 6th grade scrubbed our two church buildings, even scraping off the gum under the pews. It was a fruitful day of service for the entire school!

To celebrate, we held a rodeo event complete with a wild rope handler, wagon and horse rides for the top class, and rodeo events for everyone to participate in! Wal-mart came to our rodeo to present the school with a $1,000 grant for our community service. It was a fantastic round-up as we “Roped Everyone In for Christ!”
