Stories from 2008 Marathon Events
St. Joseph's School, Grand Rapids
St. Joseph's had a very successful Rake-a-Thon, as described in this bulletin blurb:
October 10th proved to be a really rainy day….but it didn’t dampen our School’s Spirit! We had to cancel our raking that day, but we still gathered for a wonderful meal. Nearly 300 people were there! By the time dinner was done, 16 of our 22 job sites were taken by groups of school families to complete during an evening and weekend. On October 15th, “Early Release Day”, nearly 20 parents and 40 kids gathered in the gym and went out and finished the remaining 6 job sites. Our three-fold service project was a huge success!! We helped raise money for our school’s operating budget. We helped people in our community that needed a hand with their yard work. AND We are proud to give Grace House 10% of our donations We smashed our highest amount EVER! This year's total: $20,969.15 (with more donations still coming in!)
Thank you…...we couldn’t have done this well without everyone’s support!

Divine Mercy School, Faribault
Our reward for our marathon, “Serving in God’s Jungle” was a giant jungle gym for students to run through. Our top class won a piñata party, our top students had alone time in the jungle gym, and our top family won a Minnesota Zoo family membership. It was a great event with our top teacher also earning a personal day. Everyone pitched in during these tough times to help us reach our goal. We are especially appreciative our sponsors: Parker-Kohl Funeral Home, 1st United Bank of Faribault, KC Hall, Boldt Funeral Home, Casey’s, Donahue’s, Navarro Chiropractic, Catholic Aid, Fr. Michael Kaluza and the Minnesota Zoo. Click here for an article about this event!
St. John the Baptist School, New Brighton
St. John the Baptist School was able to raise $76,100!
We located the Matching Funds information link on the www.mnmarathon.org homepage this year. That is a very helpful tool – thank you. We provided the link in several of our communication pieces so parents could log on for information on their employer organization.
St. John’s uses the Marathon not only to raise much needed funds each year, but also as our first community-building event of the school year. Marathon Saturday is a wonderful opportunity for our parents, teachers and students to gather together shortly after the school year commences.
